3d Max 2013 Update

First of sorry about my beginner question, just start with 3d Max 2013 since a few days,
basically no experience.
Reading in internet i noticed that max 2013 has many updates, service packs, product updates and so on, for a new user as i'm that bring me in total confusion, can you explain please what exactly i must install or show me some tutorial that can help to make myself understand?

I don't know what is the exact situation, but evaluation of hidden deforming object problem might require a lot of work. It is tied to scene notification system.

I confirmed that even max 9 has the same behavior, but somehow performance hit was less.

When you have a bunch of materials (non animated) in the slate window (even if closed) It slows the performance A LOT.
Yeah, I saw that problem, too. There are a few thing like this. I also try to collect information like this.

animated editpoly is dead slow. \
This is interesting. I forgot to check this. I think it is relate to evaluating controllers that I mentioned. If you animated editpoly sub-object, each points get a controller.

Thanks for good info. I hope other people also contribute their findings.
