3dsmax gun modelling, some advice needed

Hi all,

Long time reader, first time poster!

I've been teaching myself 3dsmax for a few months now, and after modelling a load of simple(ish) objects, I've decided to tackle something considerably harder. I'm looking to create a high poly model of a Beretta 92FS handgun. The idea is to create a high poly model, and then re-topologise it for a game asset.

As a new user I'm not allowed to post URLS, but images of the 92FS are everywhere, so hopefully you can see what it looks like.

What I'm after is some basic advice on how to go about starting to model it. I've tried blocking it out with some basic box geometry, but after a little while things start to get very messy, as I end up with geometry all over the place and verticies start to become very misaligned and nothing seems to fit anymore.

If anyone could offer some advice on where to start, and how to handle some of the trickier parts, such as where the handle blends into the trigger guard bit, it would be greatly appreciated.

there are a lot of tutorials on how to make a firearm in max online written ones youtube free videos tutorials and the subscription base ones
