animate the id channel

Iíve applied a multi sub object map to a Quad patch. And need to apply an id channel to each patch and animate the id channel. Is this possible?

When I change the channel it works just fine. But even thought I have Auto key turned on it does not animate. Am I doing something wrong?

Thank you very much

If you have setup the keys there should be no problem. once you hit the play button your animation should animate. if you don't have any keys set then your animation won't animate,

your keys will appear on the time slider or track bar in black if you don't have any keys down on the Track Bar or Time Slider then you would need to set them up

max does not automatically set the animation keys for you, you would need to set them up yourself.

I have auto key turned on. when I click the spinner to change the channel number it does not give the red brackets to Indicate it's being animated. and the are no key anywhere including the dope sheet. I beginning to believe channel id are not animatable.
And thanks for your response.

Yes, I can animate materials using the material editor. But, what I really need, on this project, is to be able to animate the id channels.
Thank you for your reply and giving this some thought. If i get an answer i will let you know.

you cannot just animate the ID channel you need to add a texture or colour before you can animate it.

you beable to find a script that is written for max,

you have to go down to each map of your multi/sub-object material and animate it that way when i do that it works fine and max will add the keyframes.

also you would need to add you the ID channel to all the maps you have and apply it to your scene

if this does not work then i would contact your local authorized dealer where you brought max and ask for some help. if you have the student version then you won't get any help

Tony
