Modeling classical architectural forms

Hi,

I've been using Max for architectural rendering and would like to try my hand at more organic types of modeling. Mainly to create corbels, friezes, corinthian columns... If you google
vizartonline on turbosquid you should see what I'm talking about. (Forum rules, no URLs etc... )

I've been getting familiar with the IllusionCatalyst plugin and like the bubble and pinch tools but so far precisely controlling the z elevation of rounded extrusions has eluded me. I have been using an Aiptek u12000 tablet for paintbrush work but never in Max up until now. I don't know if it's really the best way to go about doing this.

If someone says that this kind of thing is done by moving each vertex by hand I'll seriously consider sand sculpting as an alternative : )

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks,

JF

have you tried zbrush it will let you paint your models and then
import them to 3d max as objects also you can import 3d max
objects into zbrush which you can then modify by painting it...

I've seen a lot of good stuff in zbrush actually. I was actually trying to forgo the added expense of buying and learning a new software package, especially when I haven't even scratched the surface of what Max can do yet.

But while we're on the subject ... Zbrush or Mudbox ? Round one. FIGHT ! : )
