I need some tips in accounting...

Ok, I am currently going for accounting as a major in college.

I seriously hate it. I know it's an important skill.

I would like to know a good website that I can use to make me better understand accounting.

I been at college for about one year and started my second year but I do have trouble with remembering formulas.

Is their any advice on what I can do to help me pratice accounting is their some game online that I can play that is fun and yet helps me refresh my knowledge.

The problem I have is not praticing enough and also my professors don't help us out if we need it well depends what mood they are in.

I also would like to know how to start into an accounting career???

like should I get a internship??? or should I get a job at payroll.

Also if I do get a job in some accounting department would I be doing all parts of accounting or just one part.

I heard it's like one part. Like their will be a huge floor that is dedicated to the accounting department but each section would have different parts they are responsible for. Like payroll and or receivables.

I just want to know that because I really do have trouble remebering all the math formulas and when to use them.

I know the basic formulas like the assets= liability+owners equity.

but the rest gets fuzzy depends on how much we spend on it in class .

like cost of good sold ect ect.

I never was able to get a good understanding with the basics meaning I don't know what's really happening but I do know how to do it.

any help I will appreciate it.

You'll be fine

If this is just your Sophomore year, you have plenty of time to learn what you need to know. I do commend you for being proactive and finding out how accounting works in real life.

Yes accounting is split into different departments and people usually have specific duties. Depending on the type and size of company some departments may be accounts receivable, accounts payable, collections, and internal finances.

I would highly recommend that you pick any company that you may be interested in and ask if you can visit their company. Physically experiencing the daily activities will really give you a hands on feel. Then you can choose a fitting direction as you pursue your career. And it shows volumes of initiative on your part if you happen to apply for a job with them.

Starting your career should be similar. It may be hard to start your own accounting practice, but it's something to work toward. To start, you can ask around or just pick a company that interests you and apply for an internship or job.

A good website is accountingandyou.com to learn different aspects of accounting. I think there are games or crosswords at accountingcoach.com.

If you hold onto the ambition and eargerness to learn, you will be leaps and bounds ahead of the competition. God Speed.
