making a window...

Hello.
I`m new at 3d s max. I recently tried to create a window. I started from splines. I made the frame, then i tried to convert it to editable poly, or to extrude it as splines, it doesn`t work good. The outer spline is considered as a single poly and it doesn`t make the holes for the windows (see the pictures).
