EXTRUDING- SOME FACES ARE MISSING

Hi, (using 3dsmax5)

I am trying to extrude a rectangle with a triangle made with splines, l have attached the two together and it actually does extrude but certain faces are missing and sometimes the wrong way around.eg the triangle protrudes out when the rectangle is meant to. Why is this happening?

NB.The triangle is a perfect triangle with no openings
Thankyouuu be great if someone oculd drop me a line

Explain more clearly as your problem is not at all comprehensible.
