removing a material from an object.
How do I remove a material from an object if I want to get rid of it?
I've tried copying a blank material slot over the one I had the material originally had assigned to the object in question, but that didn't seem to do it. I want to remove the material, and have it as a blank colour as it originally was. Also, when I create different objects seperately, then import them into the scene I intended them for, they load up as grey objects, regardless of what colour they are. Is there any was of importing them so that everything about them is as it was in the original location? |

Once a material has been assigned to an object you can no longer view the object individually with its original object colour, the only way achieve this is to assign a blank material to it and change the diffuse colour to what you want. if you delete the material it will only make the object the default grey colour.
You can view ALL the objects in the scene by 'object colour' all at the same time by selecting 'object colour' in the display tab of the command panel but its not possible to do this to individual objects. If you are importing objects from another max scene, use 'merge' in the file menu, this shouldnt change anything from your original scene as far as materials are concerned. hope this helps

Hi,
It is possible to remove the materials from the object and see the object in its original color through scripting. You can find the script in scriptspot. Praveen
