Date Ranges in MS Acces

I created a MS Access DB with linked tables to the backend of a proprietary DB that I cannot edit.
I created a query that allows me to list courses that occur within a given data range, including courses that started before the specified range but ended within the range.

The query work fine if I enter in the precise date into the criteria fields in the design view.

Then I created a form that allows a user to enter in the start and endates to save them having to go into the query and change things. I just want them to see the results.

The form passes the dates into the query. The query is supposed to show the results which are used for a mail merge.

Instead, simply opening the form causes Access to freeze indefinitely.

How would you go about troubleshooting a problem like this?
