Pass DB2 command via VBA

All,
MS Access 2003
(Remote) DB2 backend

I am trying to clear all records in my table [PIR_MAXIM]
I tried executing this but it took an unacceptable 3 three minutes to delete a mere 1,000 records.
Code:
CurrentDb.Execute "DELETE * FROM PIR_TBLMAXIM"

Is it possible to execute this command via MS Access VBA?
Code:
CurrentDb.Execute "ALTER TABLE PIR_TBLMAXIM ACTIVATE NOT LOGGED INITIALLY WITH EMPTY TABLE"
