Cant seem to creat link

I am very new at this please have patience.

Here is my problem.

I have a picture on one of my webpages that is the banner for another website. I would like this picture to be the link to the other ( external ) website. In the "link" field, I have copied and pasted the url of the external website (eg. hxxp://externalsite.com) and it appears fine in the field. When i save my page and try to use the link it is busted. I can see that it has changed; when I hover over the link I see that it is pointing to mywebsite.com/hxxp://externalsite.com

Any help? i have also looked at other working links from my site and can see no difference in the way I entered this one from the working ones.

Updated!!!

Somehow it has started working but unfortunately the linked page does not open in a new window. Can someone advise on this?

In the Properties section, select your "Target" to be 'blank" - should open a new window for you.

Lightbulb Erm

if its working on one but not the other then i would try using fireworks or flash if you have them and copying and pasting them and then making them a link

Just check that the link field is entirely empty before you paste the link in... If you have two in there it sounds like its combined somehow. If you still cant get it right post the actual code and I can fix it for you.
