all i remember is changing the color scheme, like rgb and crap like that, and i used the wind filter, and the black letters were on top of the gradient letters that were filtered. i just cant figure out how i set up the wind feature, because whenever i try it, it just puts streaks through the letters, it does not blow the colors out the sides

you get the text you want then apply wind "from the right" then again "from the left" Keep applying till it looks good.

Then,

"rotate canvas" 90 degrees (either CW or CCW, doesnt matter) then repeat as above.

this should give you the wind effect you are after.

If you want to it to look more like "flames" add a bit of a ripple effect.

HTH...

yah, i know the rotate thing, i just need to know how to make the wind effect blow out the color, instead of but blank streaks (wind) on my letters, and also how to put the gradient on the text, i also do not have photoshop at home, so you guys will have to try it, see if it works for you

the gradient envolves a gradient overlay on the text layer (i think), and i think you did the wind on red text then on the top yellow text then put black text over that...

i know what i did i just dont remember how, and no, i did not use different layers, well except the background, the gradient text, and the black text. and besides, like i said before, i remember going through this menu that had a choice between grayscale, rgb, and stuff like that, the directory i used i cant remember but i remember getting the gradient from a subdirectory from that directory.

your problem is that I assume you're trying to use the wind filter on text that's on it's own layer. To get the effect of the text "blowing" onto the background you need a background for the filter to manipulate. Basically you have to flatten your text onto a black background before applying the wind filter.

Here's a similar Tutorial of the process :

Hope this helps!
