About loading paths as a selection in PS CS

I don't know what happened but my Photoshop's doing something wierd. Maybe I pressed something I shouldn't have and I didn't notice but now something funny is going on.

I create a path using the pen tool then turn the path into a selection to use only the area specified by the selection. But lately, instead of selecting only the inside of the selection, I select everything else outside of the selection, as if PS inverts the selection automatically for me, which I don't want. I need help knowing how to stop PS from doing this automatically everytime. How do I do this? Is it something I have to change in preferences or something else?

I'm not sure at all what is wrong. Are you completing your path?

Try using shift+ctrl+I to select the inverse.
