Gimp SO SLOW with huge image
Huge Image!
I am creating an image that is 24320 x 8816 pixels. It is for a game.
I have created it using inkscape, and exported it as a .PNG
I need to load it into gimp to change it to an indexed 256 color PNG - (but with a max of 112 colors)
Gimp simply cannot handle the image size!
Is there anything I can do?
PREFERENCES - I DON'T FULLY UNDERSTAND - PLEASE EXPLAIN
I have 1GB ram and a Pentium 4, 3GHz processor - so surely it should be able to handle this!
I have read about tile cache etc, and I still don't fully understand how it works.
My Tile Cache is set to 1024M
My CPU usage is less than 10%!
MY PF Usage is 1.57GB
I am confused because, while I am using this file in gimp, it slows to a virtually unusable rate, taking many minutes to do anything, but my CPU usage is less than 10%. My PF Usage is 1.58GB. Why isn't it going to the CPU?
Please help - thanks.
