Question Newbie question

Hello all. I'm a newbie here and have some very basic questions. I am working with Gimp to produce bitmaps for use on a Phillips Pronto Remote. My question is when creating buttons on Gimp I can't seem to figure out how to make the button round. The screen size I am working with is 240 X 219 pixels. I have no problems creating rectangular buttons and other needed items but for some reason I can't create the round ones. I searched the FAQ section for Gimp and the User Manual. Can anyone help me with the steps needed to produce the buttons I need. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks ahead.
