Really nooby question.

I apologize for my newbishness but I have a problem with gimp. I open an image and then resize the canvas to double the width and height. Then I copy and paste the image. But the pasted image is always in the background behind the grey checkerboard pattern. How can I move the pasted image to the foreground. I searched google high and low for someone like myself but no one else is as much of a noob I guess lol. I'm usually pretty good with computers but I can't for the life of me figure this out lol. Thanks for your time.

When you paste. Right click then "edit" then "paste as" then click "New Layer". Hope this helps.
