Using Gimp to Create Ebook Cover

Hi

I have some ebook templates which work great in Gimp but I am pretty new to graphics so it's been a hair-tearing learning curve to learn how to edit.

However that's done, and now I need to convert that cover into a proper cover graphic. I wish there were just a button that said "convert" but it doesn't look like there is one.

Can anyone tell me how to turn my flat ebook cover (spine and front showing flat) into a proper graphic, even better if you can tell me how to add the drop shadow effect at the base :-)

Many thanks if anyone's got the time to help.

Best wishes
Christine

If you want to use GIMP, and not Photoshop, you can use the tutorial at make ebook covers .com

Basically you create the spine, face, and top edge, and apply it to a cube, with the proper rotation and dimensions.

The tutorial there has all the details, including a lot of little touches that help make it photorealistic.

Hope it helps.
