Thumbs up Create search within my web page

I want to create a list on my webpage that can be accessed by punching in letters. For example if someone is searching for a book they punch in "C" for the first letter of the title of the book. Then all of the books that start with "C" will come up: As they punch in more letters the list narrows. I'd also like to have checkboxes for subject, title, and author. I have a decent understanding of HTML, none of Javascript. Is this an easy task that would only require html and css, or do I need Javascript? If this is very complicated, what's a good book that would explain how to accomplish the task? Or what book subject would cover it?

I guess you need something like PHP (server side language) + AJAX

To satisfy your requirement, only Html and CSS will not help you. To implement search functionality following sites may be helpful to you.
