Problem with a path in a shape

hey guys, i have a shape with a path inside that i would like to punch out(make transparent) but can not figure it out. its roughly a long rectangle with a path like the letter c in it, but i need that part to be clear.

the white part is a shape that's been made with paths and the blue is just a path.

You can find color options at the top left corner of the options bar when the object is selected. For most objects there are two color options. The first is the Path itself and the second is the area the path covers. The white box with a red / through it means "no fill"
