Creating a string seperated by commas from checkboxes selected

I've got a small problem. I've not done any coding for this yet. I would like to know whether my logic is clean and the best and easiest method to do this.

This is sort of transaction approval thing.

My JSP page will have several rows that need to be approved by the user logged in. I'm planning to provide checkboxes alongside each row. The user may/may not select all rows. Once the user selects the required rows and forwards it, the system should create a string of row references delimited by commas and pass it to core java function, which will split the request attribute and change the status of records.

My doubt is how to create this string when button is clicked and how to pass this to java function. I would like to do it without ajax right now. is it possible?
Also, is there any other way around?

Please help
