just select the polygons you want .. your new material and apply it .. this should just assign that material to that area only .... (3ds max)

or you could assign a material id to each area of polygons in the surface peramiters in the edit poly or edit mesh roll out and apply multi-sub object material ..

hope it helps

1 more thing to ask!!..

Can I have several object under 1 name??
Without attaching them togeather.. Like I want a tyre a rim, disk and break under 1 common folder like thing, still when I open that folder thing they r different!!

Just like several files in one folder. They can be moved all togeather but still they r individual when folder is opened..

Its beacuse I started modeling car, but when ever I open my selection pannel, 50 objects with name come to me. I want it more organised..

Wating for reply!!

yes this can be done useing layers very easy ... just look in the help files as it is a bit long winded to explain but simple to follow and saves me typeing it out when it is already written out lol (call me lazy I don't care)

also you can save seperaste objects this will just save the object out (delete the original from the scene) but also if you import it back in to your scene again it will keep it's cordinates from it's original file so saveing bits out to keep the file size down and can be good for editing, also these can be referenced back in without loading for rendering time see the help files for more info

hope it helps
