Hi,
I would like to make some cool chrome/metal things in 3DsMax, but it seems bit more difficult than I thought. Yes, I use mental ray rendering but I just can't get my metal balls look like metal balls! In tutorial: http://www.max-realms.com/modules/t.../chrome_tut.php they teach how to make metal/chrome material. I did it and placed it to sphere I created. It didn't look as cool as in the tutorial. I just don't get it. Where does the image to the metal ball come from?! It can't be the environment... In tutorial it said something about SCENE for the object. What does that mean :O? Anyway below is a link to my metal ball I did with the tutorial. It just doesn't look same... If anyone knows how to make metal and chrome things in 3DsMax, I could really use some help. Thanks already! http://img225.imageshack.us/my.php?image=testpm7.jpg

from first looking .... he has 2 shadows in the scene so that says to lights.
environment map ... got to material editor empty slot add your chosen map to the difuse level open rendering on the top menu Environment in the material editor difuse level drag the M to the map button in the environment map thick the box instance thick the box to use map if it is not ticked you should now have the map in the prospective viewport on render. now if you go back to your material and click on the difuse map so you are in the map level ... you will see at the top two radio buttons tick the environment this should un-grey the dropdown menu where you can change how the map is to work in the environment .. play with the settings to see what they do ... it looks like he is facing down with his camera / render view to hide the environment in the background of his render. tip alot of people are useing a HDRI map in the reflection map level of your raytracy material or in the lighting or even in the environment to give some nice reflections. Hope it helps Drew |
