Adding transparent layer in PaintShop Pro 7

When I paste a png image with a transparent background on to another image, despite being of the same size, it is not centered.

I need to ensure that it is, but don't know how to.

What am I missing?

There may be faint pixels left behind, in the transparent background, that need to be cleared (deleted).

The Background Eraser Tool and the Magic Wand selection tool can leave these unwanted pixels.

---------------

Open your PNG image. Click on the Freehand Selection Tool (lasso).

The Tool Options Palette (F4) settings will depend on the visable portion of the image.

Faded or feathered edges:

Selection type: Point to point
Mode: Replace
Feather: 2
Smoothing: 0
Anti-alias: checked
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Crisp or unfeathered edges:

Selection type: Point to point
Mode: Replace
Feather: 0
Smoothing: 0
Anti-alias: unchecked

Zoom in so you can easily see where the visable pixels merge with the transparent background.
Stay 2 or 3 pixels away from the visable edge as you click around it.

When your selection is complete and the Marquee (marching ants) is moving, go to the Main Menu and click:

Selections > Invert
Edit > Clear
Selections > Invert
Edit > Copy
Edit > Paste > Paste As New Layer
Selections > Select None (or right click inside the image window.)

This new layer will be centered top to bottom and side to side for you.

PNGs can only have 1 layer so -

Go to the Layers Palette (F8) and click on the original layer then Edit > Clear. In the Layers Palette right click on this new layer then Merge > Merge Down.

Now click Edit > Save.

--------------------

Note: All these steps may seem like a lot, until you've done it a 100 times, , so you may want to use Save As and change the name a little.

This will keep the original unedited image and add the new edited image to your file.
