VERY new user

Hey all. I am a VERY new user with photoshop, as a matter of fact, Im actually working on some photos at a friends house who owns the prog, unfortunately, he is no help, doesnt use the prog at all. I am trying to find out how I can get two different photos and put them together as one. I am trying to put a picture of my son playing hockey, and my daughter playing basketball together, and I cant figure out how to open the two photos, or for that matter, cut one and paste it on the other.
Any and all help with this matter will be greatley appreciated.

Ereet. For opening the 2, go to file > open and open the first. Then go to file > open and open the second. Then select the "rectangular marquee tool" tool and select the whole of the first picture. While selected, press CTRL + C, then go to "file > new" and a new "image window" will open (which should be blank) and CTRL + V. You'll see the new picture has appeared. Now, click "layer > new layer" and go to the 2nd image, rectangular marquee, CTRL + C, go to the new picture which should have 2 layers - one empty, and the bottom one with the 1st image. With the top layer selected, CTRL + v and the new image will appear with the 1st image underneath.

Hope this helps.

NOTE: when creating the layers, make sure the background is set to "transparent"

If you need anymore help, ask me.
