homework help.

hey ya'll, i have to use Excel to complete an assignment but i cannot remember how to do many of the processes. can anyone tell me:
1)how to create a frquency distribution
2) how to perform a Chi-square goodness-of-fit test using alpha=0.05 to investigaate whether poisson distribution provides a reasonable fit for my data (this one i really have not a clue.)

i have a few more questions but havent come across them jsut yet, trying to work sequentially through this assignment. thanks

mmc

What version of Excel are you using? I'm using 2003... so this might work, or it might be a little different, but give it a shot:

To create a frequency distribution:

From the top menu: Click Tools->Add-ins->

A window will pop up with some choices... Select the Analysis ToolPak (not the Analysis ToolPak VBA, just the regular one), and click OK.

Then what you're going to want to do is make sure you have your Bin range typed (in ascending order, obviously ), as well as your Input range (order doesnt matter here).

Okay .. Go back to the Tools menu (its on the top, in between Format and Data)

Now click on Data Analysis (it should be in the Tools menu).

A window will pop-up. Select Histogram and you should be all set.

Let me know if it doesnt work for you.

Also -

For part 2 of your question: to determine if the distribution is a reasonable fit for your data use the following variables:

x^2 > X^2 subset (significance level1, k-c)

If you really can't figure it out, post your data and maybe I'll do it for you.

Greg
