PSD file problem

I recently designed some graphics and gave my client a copy of the PSD file on to a 5GB quickie drive external drive. Well few weeks after that my comp crashed severly it crashed the HD's, so i went and bought a new PC and reinstalled PS and got everything going again now i tried to get that file back on my pc that was put on that external drive and when i try to open it with my PS its saying that its not compatable with my version of photoshop. Well its the same version that created it, so any help would be greatly appreciated

It might help to put .psd at the end of the file. At school when we save stuff from photoshop then try to open it it doesnt work. But putting the file extension on there solved the problem
