What is an algorithm?

The term algorithm (pronounced "AL-go-rith-um") is a procedure or formula for solving a problem. The word derives from the name of the Persian mathematician, Al-Khowarizmi (825 AD). A computer program can be viewed as an elaborate algorithm. In mathematics and computer science, an algorithm usually means a small procedure that solves a recurrent problem.

An algorithm can be described as set of rules and functions in which same functions would be repeated until exit loop encounters. This was meaning of algorithm from a programer point of view, this definition can be different as per Mathematical and online marketer point of view.

Algorithm in simple terms as I can define is a blueprint or skeleton structure, which helps a programmer to design or code in the manner the algorithm has been written.
