How to find fruction part after decimal point

Hello,
I have to find 7 and more digits in friction part after decimal loin. The amount of numbers can be from 0 to 20. Example:
78.89 or 78.0000004657909
My problem is that when I convert number to string (the number is float in DB), it gives me 78.888888888881 instead of 78.79 and I receive in my select query all numbers from two to 19 decimal points after dot.
The question is: how can I find how many digits after decimal points I have and use only those that have more than 6 digits.

Thanks,
Oleg
