Installing Joomla 1.5 on Windows 2003 with an Apache Web Server

http://www.videotutorialzone.com - If you have been struggling with the popular Joomla Content Management system running on Windows, this tutorial should help get you going in the right direction. After all. getting Joomla, Apache, PHP and MySQL all running smoothly and in harmony under Windows can be quite a challenge.

Many people that run Windows servers and want to use Joomla have a tough time deciding whether they should use IIS as their webserver, since they already have it, and it is designed as a part of their server, or if they should use Apache. There really isn't a simple answer, except to say that Joomla, PHP and MySQL will all play much more nicely with Apache than IIS. You can use IIS, of course, but you will find yourself running into problems over time that you would not experience with Apache as your web server. This will be especially true when you try to get Joomla to use Search Engine Friendly URLs while youa re running an IIS webserver. You can do it, but it will be a major hassle, while if you simply use Apache, it will all take minutes to accomplish.

In this video tutorial we start with a fresh Windows 2003 server and go through every step needed to get Joomla version 1.5 running on it with the pache webserver, rather than IIS. We install PHP and MySQ through the easy and full-featured XAMPP package, tweak the settings of the PHP.INI file, configure IIS to operate with PHP and MySQL, then finally download, install and test Joomla 1.5.

Thumbs up XAMPP Rocks!

I'm a big fan of XAMPP -- it's great for running PHP/mysql apps for windows, both for development and lightweight production!
